Sunny Bamra receives New City College Staff Award

New City College is one of the largest further education college groups in the country. As well as supporting around 20,000 students to achieve qualifications each year, the college plays a significant role within the communities in the areas it serves.

Chair of Career Colleges Employer Board, Sunny Bamra, is Group Deputy Director in New City College’s automotive and engineering department. Sunny has been recognised by New City College CEO Gerry McDonald as an individual who has gone over and above for students and the wider community, during the lockdown period.

Throughout lockdown, Sunny proactively and tirelessly supported the wellbeing of staff and the welfare and academic performance of students. Notably, he also led the college’s development of hundreds of 3D covid-safe door pullers for the NHS and care homes across East London and Essex. Working with one of his ex students, who designed the puller for his mum and her colleagues, Sunny rolled out the design template to colleagues who together produced and distribute them across the region. And then he moved onto visors….

One of Sunny’s colleagues summed up why he should win an award: “Sunny is simply the best. Totally proactive in getting things done and sorted whether with students, staff, companies, awarding bodies, parents, and most importantly great at promoting engineering. Sunny has been encouraging, supportive, proactive and optimistic, at a difficult and stressful time.”
